Dream of the Fire Sprite, September 1991

Walking about the carnival fair with Jon, then alone, wandering, whilst on the fringes roams the faceless one. Cowled in white, invisible, darkness, malicious, hater of music, roaming the carnival.
Did you see the great music box, and hear its chanting melody, its incantation lost? It alone the creature robed in white avoids. He remembers the words.

And then he senses you at the fair, and knows you for what you are, light child, and hates you. Can you avoid his power? You must escape the carnival where he roams, out to the edge of the shapeless void beyond. And there stand the ruins of a church, standing but shuttered, the decrepit bell-tower piercing up into the darkness. So you climb the bell rope into the tower, and pray that you remain hidden, and hope that place may protect you.

But the creature follows; He knows you too well. And now you are trapped up there, powerless, and his laughter echoes hollow. He stands below, staring up, determining your end.

But do you remember the music box, with its chanting melody? He hates the music. He fears the music. The words are forgotten, but you were born into the words, they do not matter. It is truth, and the truth is yours. So make the words as you go along. Just sing . . . (the words were lost but this was their spell…)

You have no power over me . . .

The faceless one screams his pain and defeat. The song is too strong for him to bear. He cannot touch you. It is dissolving him, and his power is vanquished. And suddenly there is another presence to be felt, one that had been imprisoned, light bottled, suffocated in silence. But his power over her is dying, and now she has the strength to break free. In his scream he holds out a leaden bottle in his hand, clutching it, but the thing shatters, she shatters it, and flies out, soaring exultant in the music towards you. Light Spirit, Fire Sprite, you are free . . .

54:40 "Since When" 09/15/98

Since When contained "Since When", "Stormy", "Playground", "Greatest Mistake", "Runaway John" (the song of said quote), also "Pay For My Living", "Angel in My Bed".

For a priceless bit of history behind the name (with respects to this context), 54:40 was derived from the slogan, "Fifty-four forty or fight". Given the origins of the band in terms of location (Tsawwassen), this dispute could have made the bandmembers American as opposed to Canadian, as the inaugural President of the time was using the slogan to demand all of what was then the shared territory of Oregon. What is interesting about said dispute is that the tip of Vancouver Island, namely Victoria, was the exception to the determination of the 49th parallel becoming the border (the compromise that was reached), remaining Canadian rather than becoming American. This was in no small part thanks to the campaign efforts locally of the man running Victoria's newspaper, "The Times Colonist", who was such a personality he changed his name to Amor de Cosmos ("Lover of the Universe"). He went on to become British Columbia's second premier, being too much of an iconoclast to get the job first. And you begin to realize this sort of thing may be more typical than atypical, eh? As well as more than a little interesting. What's also interesting is this is one of the instances where US attempted to invoke "Manifest Destiny" in their claim to what remained and became Canada was actually theirs through some sort of Divine ordinance.

Note: I notice the wiki page "defends" Polk in the sense of asserting that "54:40 or fight" was not really Polk's electoral campaign slogan, that this a common historical mis-conception. Interesting, but why would I trust a page that has already committed the negligent bias of making no mention of an American with his American Gatling gun to help suppress Riel's Northwest Rebellion is Saskatchewan? Even the fact that he is an "American" and the United States incorporated this as their name is symptomatic of the mentality of "Manifest Destiny" and the desire to control as much of North America as possible. With the moniker, the expansion and addition of states into the American union could prove nigh un-limited; they were "American" anyhow. -Rather astute.

Foot Note

Note: It is a trait that western Canucks still deliberately shift between metric and imperial measurement when it suits, simply because “feet” work better for indicating short distances. There is still a tendency to use miles. This national idiosyncrasy (at the time when Canada parted ways with the US in shifting to metric) was referenced in a Disney scene (2:27) that infantilised Canadians as industrious brainy types who were in fact farm hick stupid and easy to fool (employing the animal that is Canada’s national symbol, what the eagle is to the US; imagine the national uproar if Canadians had done anything akin to the reverse). Though “racist” only comes up in reference to how other nationalities were portrayed in this movie, Canadians got the worst treatment bar none. This conclusion is reinforced because every dog character in the movie represented a different nationality or regional dialect, as did the maligned as racist Siamese cats. -Off topic, I know.

But the fact that the merger of the beaver using both metric and Imperial measurement at the same time, has conjunctive history behind it, means the scene is deliberately slagging Canada, and Canadians. Which means even effing Disney knew the US had to gain control of Canadian resources, with the presumed clarity that gulling Canadians would be all too easy.

Maria's final note.

She took it from a book that was supposed to reveal your sexual identity based on the first letter of your first name, and gave it to Ray in parting.

"You are a no-nonsense, action oriented individual. You need someone who can keep pace with you and who is your intellectual equal (this poses a problem), the smarter the better. You are turned on more quickly by a great mind than a great body. However physical attractiveness is very important to you. You have to be proud of your partner. You are privately very sexy, but you do not show that outwardly. If your new lover is not all that great in bed, you are willing to serve as teacher. Sex is important; you can be a very demanding playmate."

Eden - September 6, 1999

Walking home on Essex Street I was next to a party of several men, who turned out to be five with one woman.

One of them turns to me and says, "Excuse me, but you wouldn't happen to know where Eden restaurant is, would you?" He's suave and they're American, impeccably well dressed.

"Acutally you just passed it."

"See! I told you she'd know." They thought I was Irish. So I lead them up the alley to the entrance. Oh, they would never have found it, and so on.

"Would you like to join us for dinner?"

Well, sure!

Second meal of the night, over three bottles of wine. (But lately due to scarcity have been eating very little so make the most of it.)

It turned out they were a blues band from New Jersey called the Fins, and they'd just played the Blues Festival in Monaghan, of all places, pretty well the only place I'd been outside of Dublin. We've both been to "nowhere". But they were asking my info first and I was dodging all sorts of salvos on "Wat made you come to Ireland?" The worst I would give them, and that was after a lot of prying, was "a philosophical question".

"Oh come on, there's a man behind it, I'm certain." So says a beau named Eric (a married beau), -the drummer.

"Uh, no." (I've told you I'm a bad liar.)

"Yes there is."

"Well only in the most metaphysical sense." I'd duly warned them, you really don't want to get into this. I fronted them with time off, a vacation, they were still like, why Ireland?

Then the woman, Randi (yes lol), wanted to know exactly what I did workwise, which I'm quite embarasssed about at the moment. So she gave me, "Are you going to give us any direct answers here, or are you going to be like this all evening?" Like I said, very direct. After that things loosened up a bit and it became an exchange, all lite. We've both been to Leslie Castle, of course (we were both in Monaghan). Cliff the sax tells me a fascinating vignette about meeting "The Addams Family" there, Pugley, Gram, the tall one (Lord Leslie), the Thing, and how surreal that was. I was duly entertained, but it's very hard to make me think of such coincidences as very extraordinary when it comes to my life. I'm not saying it wasn't fascinating or fun, but Cliff was rating it as the strangest day of his life.

All in all I think they found me to be good company, were impressed by my bravery, survivial instincts, and basic smarts. There were fun to listen to. Window to a whole different slice of life. Randi and Butch had been to Jerusalem that year. Butch made me sing the Canadian anthem three times because he likes the tune so much. They gave me their card and said, e-mail us.

I told Kirsten and Maria about the evening and Maria says, "See, she's always so lucky!" Kirsten already agrees. So home life is s****y, but the extracurricular activities lately have been quite perky.

The Charlatans "Us and Us Only" 10/19/99

Forever

Forever you're my foundation
I know I can keep
Told I was good for nothing
Branded a cheat
Now I know why you listen
I can help you anytime
Love is all there is
I wonder what you people do with your lives
Hey

Oh! I wonder what you people do with your lives
Oh! I wonder what you people do with your lives
Oh! I wonder what you people do with your lives
Once more this will be forever

I can't withold secrets
I know I'm going where the sun always shines
I know, my son, we've made it
It can't escape my mind
I know my star, I know my star
Is the brightest star, the brightest star
Forever be in my arms
Forever be in my arms

This could be a myth in the making
Under a spell
Down to ambition
I guess you could even call it a miracle

I see my true love coming
My little bundle of joy
I can help you realise
It's us and us only

I know I'm as good as my neighbour
A starter for ten
I can't promise you I'll always need you
I promise I'll always be there
Oh! I wonder what you people do with our lives
Oh! I wonder what you people do with our lives
Hey, oh, I wonder what these people do with their lives

When you find it you'll feel it
I'll give you all my love
Hold it, don't leave it, misuse it
As long as you believe enough
My mind is multiplying
I have so much to give
I wouldn't underestimate you for the way you want to live
Forever, Forever, Forever
Forever, Forever, Forever
Forever, Forever, Forever
Forever

Good Witch, Bad Witch

I'm goin' where the good wind blows   4xs
Goin' where the good wind blows blows blows blows

I'm on the bad bad side of the road
I'm on the bad bad side of the road
You know you're goin' where the good wind blows
I'm on the bad bad side of the road

Impossible

Impossible raw women, I you know you're all too hard to please

I can help you, if you only ask me kindly
Don't make me get down on my knees
God bless these hungry women, impossible to ever keep
Your breath has never tasted so sweet

I don't need you to need me to need my freedom
My freedom is a vision you seek
And the place you disappear to, is the place I wish to be
I beg you, instill you
Don't treat it like some kind of joke
This song is, kind lady , my only hope
You can't kill an idea just 'cause it's raining
Keep it in the family, keep it in the kids
(You know) they're all handing out free tickets
This big old boat is a startin to sink
This whole world is getting hungry
And it ain't memories you need from me
And if memories are all you need from me
You're a hard act to please

[I miss you and it's lonely
I admit I can hardly sleep
Y'know he looks like a plastic surgeon
Just look at him he's a piece
The whole world is like a postcard
Easily lost and easy to reach
And if this is where you're going I will surely leave

Ex-impossible raw woman
You know you're oh so hard to please
Your new friend he seems to love you
I hope he cries himself to sleep] -it appears they dropped this section of the lyrics, consistently
She will fool you
Destroy you
Disappear
Without so much as smoke
This song is, cool lady, my only hope

My Beautiful Friend

My beautiful friend

I will pay attention
Don’t say this is the end
I find it hard to describe you
To point and discover you
Could I tell you once again
O my beautiful friend

Let me sleep and I will feed you when you’re hungry
4 ever live inside of me
Thru the holes in the pockets of my clothes
High as, as high as an angel
I will stand there beside you
Love is all we need
My beautiful friend
My beautiful friend

My beautiful friendI swear I adore you
Ain’t no woman deep enough
I don’t know how we made it this far dear
Without losing at least an ear
I could leave us, I could leave us a painting
Our lives are-a-changing
I couldn’t and I wouldn’t want to change you
Don’t you know it I can save you
I will do all of this on my very own
My beautiful friend
My beautiful friend

(Can I ask you) do you ever get this feeling
That we've got to carry on
Do you ever get this feeling
When it’s hard to carry on
Do you ever get this feeling
That we've got to carry on

 Senses (Angel on My Shoulder)

You're my sweet black angel
Laughing on my shoulder
Always taking special care of me
You live with me in the night and in the day
And it's your world
You and me
You're an angel
You see only what you wish to see
Where's my sweet black angel
Laughing on my shoulder
Your world is my saviour
It's all that I live for
And it's your world
You live with me night and day
And it's eating my whole heart away

Look at my skin shine
Look at my skin glow
Look at my skin laugh
Look at my skin cry

I'm tired of doing things for others, who give nothing in return
Take a vow with my sweet angel
You're everything I do deserve
When you smile
Just a little bit
You're all I need
You and my philosophy
I am a simple messenger
I can help you if you please
I want you
To be
All I need to be
Yes!!

The Blind Stagger

Lord

It's been a long time
And people don't you find
Always leave their troubles at your door
I live on my own
I don't need a bitter soul beatin' on about my country anymore
Don't you think your daddy needs you home right away
Your Daddy needs you home right away
Oh, it's about time, could you for once be strong
You know I bleed a little too
You're invisible, is there something I can give to you
I see my light come shining
There is good on the horizon
Daylight sneaking through my window
I will give you a rainbow and a bucket full of gold
You been bitten by eleven hungry kittens
Who will go the whole distance while the blind stagger

Oh, let the light shine, could you for once be strong
You know I bleed a little to
You're invisible, is there something I can give to you
I see my light come shining
There is good on the horizon
Daylight, sneaking through my window
I will give you a rainbow and a bucket full of gold
You been bitten by eleven hungry kittens
Who will go the whole distance while the blind stagger

Watching You

Watching you

Learning to have every faith
In all of the things that you do
How much I've lied
Tears have been cried

Loving you
Hoping to finally nail this
All I need is your word
Lazy bones
Where are all our friends
Where are all our friends
Going down again

Watching you
Finally finding the feeling I know there's
Too much to do
Hiccups and pride
Tears I cried
A feelin' all of it's own

Look at all our friends
Goin' down again
Goin' down again

I can hardly get no feelin' at all
Like a baby first starting to crawl
When I'm with you
I only want to see you smile
All I need is a satisfied mind
It's a long road

Don't cry, put your head on my shoulder
Take a long time to re-cover
It took a long time and I'm missing you
It took a long tim
But now I found you
It took a long time
But I found ya
I found you

I Don't Care Where You Live

Here I stand at the foot of the window

Oh please, I can help you fill the hole
All my life I depend on opinion
You have solid soul

I don't care where you live
I don't care where you live
For today, I started loving you again
Here I stand at the foot of the window
Oh Lord, I don't care where you live
Tell me why, and please be kind
My only companion, oh yeah

I don't care where you live
I don't care where you live
I will follow you
Wherever you
Wanna go

I will follow you, wherever you
I will follow you, wherever you
I will follow you, wherever you

Wait with me
As our love is for keeping
Oh pease, I can help you fill the hole
My, My your daddy cares
He's just not here today
It goes on

I don't care where you live
I don't care where you live
For today, I started loving you again

Dream in Jerusalem, 1988

The dream was in Jerusalem, but had a futuristic twist, invoked that it was “New Jerusalem”.

Our family arrives in a beautiful city steeped in history where we intended to reside. But there is a great evil in this city, which pervades throughout. You can almost breath it in the air. This presence is a live force, silently converting all comers to its seductive will. The religious souvenir shops in the city act as small powerful centers, where the conversion process is commenced. All are subjugated. In touring the city we inevitably go to a great structure in the city’s center, which was correspondingly the center of its belief and religious history. It was also the source of all evil, the center of the insidious will. The family, or I alone came several times to this towering building which was revered by all the converts. It had the appearance of a church, cut in gilded stone in the gothic style. At present it served two purposes, it was a massive dining hall in the day, and in the evenings it served its true purpose; it became the site of mass congregational services. (Woe to us if we had encountered one of those services, I feel it would have been very frightening, like being in the presence of the Devil and opening oneself to discovery. I had a vision of the ceremony.) However, we came on this day to eat, (and soon lost our appetite). I said the city was steeped in history, of one religion, one building. As I wandered inside the stone surfaces faded, revealing the inside wholly decorated with the bones of innocent martyrs. Thus it had appeared for many centuries. It was founded on the blood of martyrs. They had been covered to make the place palatable to the more “enlightened” modern practitioners. But the truth was evil. Feeling oppressed we went outside, and sat on the cement where we ate our own lunch. I was sitting alone, and sensed the sun shining behind me, over my left shoulder. In my mind I could see it (without turning). It was very close, not light years away. I felt someone kneel behind me and was immediately enveloped in the care, strength and security of “Daddy’s love”. So I turned, fully expecting to see my father, and was faced with a stranger. He looked like a Palestinian Arab, a slight clean-cut man in a navy jacket and tan slacks. His hair was black and he had a moustache. I was taken aback, and as I had turned on him in complete familiarity I said, “Excuse me, Sir, but I thought you were my father.” I turned back, and the realization dawned, my lips curved into a smile, and I thought back, In fact, I think you are my Father. It was Jesus. We sat together, and then he went and spoke to my parents about the work still to be done.

Guess who I saw...

-two days before I met Bono for the first time, August 23rd, 1999.

Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters were at The Vicar.

This is what I call coincidence.

“This is the home of Dr. Geary, another outlaw, like myself. We’re Navigators, we’re aviators, we’re eatin’ taters, masturbatin’ alligators, bombardiers we got no fears when we shed no tears, we’re pushin’ the frontiers of transcendental perception. What’s weird is.. we haven’t met yet. On this or any other plain.” –

Doctor Robert (Bono) in Across the Universe

Given it granted him the chance to say this, maybe it's a funny kind. (As well as the chance to sing the opening to "I Am the Walrus").

It's still waay below where I operate, lol.

Of course, if that's a gap for some, the character of Dr. Robert was based on Ken Kesey. Still a gap probably for many, but over here I'm amused.

Around the World

I know, I know for sure
That life is beautiful around the world
I know I know it's you
You say, "Hello" and then I say, "I do"

Parallel Universe

Deep inside of a parallel universe
It's getting harder and harder
To tell what came first
Under water where thoughts can breathe easily
Far away you were made in the sea
Just like me
Christ I'm a sidewinder I'm a
California king
I swear it's everywhere
It's everything
Staring straight up into the sky
Oh my my a solar system that fits
In your eye microcosm
You could die but you never dead spider web
Take a look at the stars in
Your head fields of space kid
Christ I'm a sidewinder I'm a
California king
I swear it's everywhere
It's everything
Christ I'm a sidewinder I'm a
California king
I swear it's everywhere
It's everything
Psychic changes are born in your heart entertain
A nervous breakthrough that makes us the same
Bless your heart girl
Kill the pressure it's raining on
Salted cheeks
When you hear the beloved song
I am with you
Christ I'm a sidewinder I'm a
California king
I swear it's everywhere
It's everything
Christ I'm a sidewinder I'm a
California king
I swear it's everywhere
It's everything

 Porcelain

Porcelain
Are you wasting away in your skin
Are you missing the love of your kin
Drifting and floating and fading away
Porcelain
Do you smell like a girl when you smile
Can you bear not to share with your child
Drifting and floating and fading away
Little lune
All day
Little lune
Porcelain
Do you carry the moon in your womb
Someone said that you're fading too soon
Drifting and floating and fading away
Porcelain
Are you wasting away in your skin
Are you missing the love of your kin
Nodding and melting and fading away
Little lune
All day
Little lune
Little lune
All day
Little lune

This Velvet Glove
....
I want to taste the taste of
Being face to face with common grace
To meditate on the warmest dream
And when I walk alone I listen
To our secret theme

Your solar eyes are like
Nothing I have ever seen
Somebody close
That can see right through
I'll take a fall and you know
That I'll do anything
I will for you
Sailin' for the sun
Cause there is one
Knows where I'm from

Purple Stain
....
Knock on wood we all stay good
'Cause we all live in Hollywood
With Dracula and Darla Hood
Unspoken words were understood
Up to my ass in alligators
Let's get it on with alligator haters
Did what you did-did what you said
What's the point yo what's the spread
Black and white red and blue
Things that look good on you
And if I scream don't let me go
And purple stain-I know
All if I call you to stay
Come hit the funk on your way
It's the way out there but I don't care
'Cause this is where- I go
Knock on wood we all stay good
'Cause we all live in Hollywood
With Dracula and Darla Hood
Unspoken words were understood
It's way out there
But I don't care
'Cause this is what
I want to wear

Right On Time

One shot all I need
I've got rhythm when I bleed
‘Til death do us part
Break my heart so I can start

Supercalifragilistic
Kiss me in the futuristic
Twisted but I must insist
It's time to get on top of this

It's right on time
It's right on time
It's right on time
It's right on time it's right on time it's right on time
It's right on time
Lookin' fine you're lookin' fine get on 1999

Discard to bombard
Calling you all you shooting stars
Holy cow bow wow wow
Now I'm here I'm nowhere now
Joan of Arc reincarnated
Maybe we could be related
So much blood to circulate
And so much space to decorate

It's right on time
It's right on time
It's right on time
It's right on time it's right on time it's right on time
It's right on time
Lookin' fine you're lookin' fine get on 1999
It's right on time

The plain and simple pain
I want to but I can't complain
Death row let us go
It's time to blow up for show

All the world reverberated
Coming through we motorcaded
Vibrate when we operated
Turning up in solid stated
Oh lord

Saviour

Dusting off your savior

You were always my favorite
Always my man
All in a hand
To celebrate you is greater
Now that I can
Always my man

Now you see what I came for
No one here is to blame for
Misunderstand
All in a hand
Just like you cause you make me
All that I am
All in a hand

A butterfly that flaps its wings
Affecting almost everything
The more I hear the orchestra
The more I have something to bring
And now I see you in a beautiful and different light
He's just a man and any damage done will be all right
Call out my name
Call and I came

Dusting off your savior
Forgiving any behavior
He's just a man
All in a hand
Your hero's destined to waver
Anyone can
Always my man

I would never betray you
Look at me who could raise you
Face in the sand
Safe in your hand
You were always my favorite
Always my man
All in a hand

We are the red hots
And we're loving lots the love me nots
The flowers in your flower pot
Are dancing on the table tops
And now I see you in a beautiful and different light
He's just a man and everything he does will be all right
Call out my name
Call and I came
Dusting off your savior
The life that you have narrated
You were my man

Where I'm amused to find that journal entry has online corroboration (of sorts)

June 6, 1999 – went to the Red Box (the Pod) for the first time, for DJ’s from both Underworld and Prodigy (Darren Emerson and Liam Howlett), and danced all night. (Literally.) "It was the first night out dancing where I really enjoyed myself." The journal noted liking Emerson and that the third DJ (who I didn't know was Liam, having gotten wrong information that he backed out of playing) -was awesome. Thankful for the run-in as it set my record straight! (I never followed Prodigy.)

"Keith Flint from Prodigy came down onto the dancefloor, very close to where I was dancing, and watched me quite a lot for an extended period, like up to half an hour. That I was being scoped was plainly apparent. He looked like he wanted to dance. I'm trying to ignore him. In the meantime I was completely surrounded by a circle of men and one drunken leering fellow who continually juxtaposed himself in between. I put an elbow within a hair of his nose just to give him a drift, because he was getting to close, and so was another one, but that interaction maintained its balance, remained amicable and worked out OK. Keith was dancing, tentatively, on the outside of this ring. I could tell he was a little shy. I treated him like everybody else, meaning I remained focused on dancing. He disappeared, came back, and this time broke through the barrier and danced beside me for about ten minutes or so. His footwork was extremely fast. (My feet are not.) This time he brought his girlfriend with him. Even the drunk was in awe. Then he drifted away and circulated through the crowd.

Wrong celebrity, but hey!"

I’m amazed to find corroboration of this happening on the interwebs. Just goes to show ya boys will be boys. No clue Keith came out and “started to go absolutely mad” dancing beside a girl who had ruled the floor in terms of attracting a circle of eight, eh?

If Jesus had lost his laptop, would we have been much better off? -paraphrasing Dave Roberts.

"Millions in Awe at Heavenly Harmony"

"A Mystery in the Sky Bewilders Scientists"

still my fav letter to editor in a rock mag. 11 years later.

REM Concert, July 16th 1999

I checked at Eamon Doran's to see if my purse had been found at around 5:00 pm (it had been stolen there the night before).

It had been turned in, with Everything in it. I asked the female manager, and she responded, "Did it have an REM ticket in it?"

Euphoric relief! Someone says with that sort of luck, you should go out and buy a lottery ticket tomorrow. They were happy at my happiness. The cards were all cancelled, but there were all there. So was my Passport. Only the money, 10 or 15 punts, was taken. Given I suspect it may have been Asha who stole it, I don't know whether to thank God for grace or curse the world's malicious ambivalence.

The 24 hours proved such a low to high it was almost like a redemptive cycle, because now I am off to REM. I go from a total loss of identity and abandonment, to a complete sense of identity and personal fulfillment, in less than 10 hours. What is to be garnered from that?

A half hour's walk later and I'm emotionally spent, passive, carrying almost nothing (except my recovered four proofs), no possibility of drug intake (too bad), just see it for what it is, no strings, no associations, just totally grateful to even be there at all.

The seating turned out to be optimal viewing, just excellent in terms of the screens, perfect angle for the stage. The only problem was that the sun was setting directly overhead of the stage. I hooded myself with my coat, but by REM the sky had misted sufficiently to produce a rising bank of cloud behind which it set. Perfect. It was also creating massive prism difractions, a splotch of rainbow colour on one side of the mist. I praised God for the amazing sky. Then REM was on with a bang, starting with "Lotus". In the last week I have been backing off them, reassessing, telling myself I assumed too much, but here, now, "Lotus" is so plainly a redemptive song and I exhult in the awareness of state. Redemption via a human. Then, "What's the Frequency Kenneth?", then "Wake-up Bomb".

"I had to teach the world to sing by the age of 21"

-And the self-acknowledgement of conviction, abandonment of the world. After, soon after, was "Suspicion". Imagination, come alive. Near the ending as the song sails away, I closed my eyes, sailed with it, sent out an embrace. The song concluded and Stipe starts anew: "Jesus, let me know my special place", -a twice made appeal. That may not have been exact but its sentiment was for Christ to endorse and place him, let him find himself. As this my eyes brightened with tears, at the acknowledgment of Jesus in that appeal, that Stipe has arrived here at long last, not knowing if he would. I cried for joy as he began the song "Test-Leper" knowing fully why he terms himself thus, why the appeal is made. I embrace him anyway, for he has come, self-determinant. I have never judged him, and I am not responsible. I put out the embrace. (I made him a place, didn't I? Yet I didn't define that he has chosen.)

I wish I could remember every song, so that I could fully reiterate the process and what happens. The songs do mean more now, apply fully to the moment, and convey how for me, some were meant for the Now, this moment. "Don't Fall On Me" was one of the commencing songs. They got into the back catalogue, even coverage, which was nice. "Losing My Religion", everyone sang. I feel like that now because I am fraught with doubt that this is true. "Everybody Hurts" was total released for me, that fit what was happening this day with such aptitude that I told myself, hold onto this moment and remember. For I had just gone through that devastation, that abandonment where I was lost and separate, hopeless and in pain, only to be brought back and relieved by this total exoneration of my state, which trivializes my lack of faith and self-confidence, and shows me how insignificant it is in the face of what exists.

I utilized this moment, took it to its furthes personal applicaiton, telling myself it doesn't matter what happens to you in this life, if you remain isolated, alone for all of it, get yourself pregnant, remain in servitude, what is has intrinsic value, what you are and have given is valid and must be sustained, and no matter when you hit darkness, remember this, remember not to let go; it is true loss in the face of existence. Remeber what comfort there is, that these would, and have comforted you, in the best possible measure, to the best of their abilities, they have comforted you Now, (when your existence is on a thread, when you have come through despair), and if they had any other way they would comfort you always, but they have givein you this moment Now, and remains to you to never forget, and let this sustain you.

I Will. I will.

It was "Electrolite" that followed, that generated reciprocal feedback through the audience as a whole. "This on goes out to the one I love" took on new significane in this moment of rebirth, departure. Interesting song about "father". I know what my father is, the strength to judge, -I would never have the strength to do (famous lasts words). Familial roles representing a spiritual body.

I wish I could remember the key songs. They did "Walk Unafraid"; it was the first time I liked "Daysleeper". "Man on the Moon", of course. "The Apologist". And then they played a new one (probably/could it have been "The Great Beyond"?) As I caught it I realized what affirmation it was, talking about accomplishing the struggle for growth, and I was so happy to know that I have succeeded, accomplished these things, determined and fulfilled my own existence, and I am filled with great joy. This was succeeded by "I have found a way to make you smile". True, and in the face of my odds, no small accomplishment. So I said, "I love you too" (almost as much as I love U2, lol) , in a mental rejoinder to his previous, "I love U2."

"I hope that you apply this emptiness, this peacefulness..."

I profoundly regret that I am failing to remember what the concluding songs were, for this transition in me was of such great importance. What I realized was that I am dealing with not just one, but two paradoxical articles of faith, and have only acted on one of them. The second was recognized in the acceptance of my life generated by "Everybody Hurts". I came here on the faith that the mutual injunction, and thereby this union, exists (it is an ultimate act of faith), but I had that contingent on receiveing affirmation, being given a path, being given to love, and the people that I love. (I would accept nothing less.) Based on the recent transitions in my thinking, I here concluded that the limbo the question of the injunction puts me in leaves me free to define my own life until it is resolved. My father can make judgements, his impact on my life can in fact be nil; if no affirmation takes place, you will not be shunted into assuming anything in terms of giving it all up or accepting its non-existence. "Uncertainly can be a guiding light" finally fulfills itself.

You are a free woman. What do you want from our life? Of course, the first thing I want, is what I came here for, but that may never happen, it may be not supposed to happen, and here I arrived at full acceptance that if it does not meet, that simply makes me a free woman, to define my own life as I choose, and I became this. The question will no longer make me suicidal. I will be free to live and love as I choose. What I realized was that this acceptance too was a further embrace of faith, for accepting that I may never receive physical affirmation face to face, is the fullest extent of faith, in this case, to exist in the assumption that it does, with no tangible or direct response ever, no payback as it were. I will never recieve this love in a direct, personal of physical sense. It remains, however, to exist in the faith that it does exist. What I realized then was that the act of assuming this faith in itself was what would make its existence real. It is for me to simply assume it. To do so is to make this union exist, for the place where this can be seen, and must be affirmed, is in my own mind. To which I declared, It Is. It is.

So I profoundly regret the little vignette I sent to Bono, which ways I could never really abide the question, because I can and did. I could go home now with no response whatsoever, and begin a new life. This is enough.

It was with this conclusion that the band left the stage, and for the encore, Stipe returned alone with an acoustic guitar, and what he sang was (of course),

Who cast the final stone,
Who threw the crushing blow
Someone has to take the fall
Why not me?

Had consequence chose differently
Had fate its ugly head,
My actions make me beautiful
and dignify the flesh
Me.
I am free.
Free.

I am singing this with him, for this was my achievement, and here, now, I am free. That this followed was fulfillment in itself. That this was followed by "Crush with Eyeliner" sent me to the stars with joy. I am still inventing myself. I just pulled (or perhaps affirmed) the big one. I love being ahead of the ball, that's what makes it. So the song means what it says, for the moment was already accomplished.

In other words the concert just soared. (Who needs drugs?!) I soared with it. I would be happy and fulfilled on this trip just by having been here, attaining this form of resolution. (Bit expensive, what!?)

I was so very, very happy to be here, having lived as I have, what is accomplished in my own existence. I know how centrist that sounds, but the joy, to me, is mutual affiramtion and how it lives through other people, infecting them with love and restoration. That is the joy.

The woman I was sitting beside was lovely and we both appraoched it like exuberant teens, up and dancing at any chance. It turned out she was from Vancouver.

Walking out of the stadium a woman from her yard declared, "Can anyone see the light in the sky? What is it?" I didn't know what she was referring to until I saw the sickle moon's unearthly glow enveloped in the mists. It really was almost too ethereal to identify. The whole orb had achieved a glow, even though itw as a new moon. It was like the vision dream I had encountering Jane Siberry's "Maria".

Years ago I said that concerts were unique in what was expressed in the songs could achieve direct and active fulfillment in the Now, by being performed in the live setting. They may even be ultimately fulfilled in that Now, attain their highest meaning. It's still true. Some songs were never better applied than in those moments. To say so, to assume that, is ludicrous, but for me it is true, and in me it is true.

Nearly home and I'm accosted by a Parisian who wants to know where Temple Bar is, so I start walking him there and he asks me if I'd like to go for a drink. We walk all over, not successful in finding a bar (that's not crowded, closed, or has cover charge), so we chat and chat, only that's mainly me and I'm telling him all sorts of episodes about my life, which really fasinated him; (it turned out he was a script writer). In the end we went to Zanzibar, as since I am going to be working there I want to see what it is like on weekends. It's horrendously crowded. It loses all sense of exoticness to its standard fare lousy dance music (it's the same as The Jet Lounge (where I was a silhouette dance); it's scary that this shite is common internaional culture, the same anywhere); it's a zoo. I will not like this at all. Fabien and I (that's his name, introductions came very late), actually managed to find a secluded corner behind a palm tree on the topmost floor, where we just continued talking. He was the same age, 28. He kept asking for episodes of my life. Then all this stopped, we kissed, and kept doing it. There was something tentative to his movements (suggested inesexperience perhaps), but it was highly intimate even for a bar. It was not pushy, tongue down your throat type of feel, even though that was going on. It was very tender and content with just touching and being touched. For his tenderness I was greatful to be with him.

We walked some more and I took him to the flat with an offer of juice (we'd spent the whole time looking for a place to drink, and all he wanted was juice). We ate too; I hadn't had dinner yet. I have never been accosted sexually from behind while cooking rice before. Emily and Ciara's return home defused events, Fabien took his leave, but not without stolen kisses and my phone number. I can bet you he won't call. He's returning to Paris soon, and I think he'll conclude I am (immigraiton scenarios included) overwhelming for him, no matter how interesting it all is.
